Image Management Module Overview

The Image Management Module was designed to augment the core TMS application modules to provide the capability to display images (pictures, drawings, maps, etc.) on demand. The idea was to make images available to all TMS users based upon information stored in the TMS database, in a context-sensitive mode (e.g. to display a base map showing the location of a building when a building record is displayed, or a block diagram of a cable route when a cable record is displayed).
The Image Management Module files must reside on a network in a pre-defined directory structure or on each individual workstation (client). Consequently, client-server workstations usually map a network drive to the TMS server for this module to function.
The Image Management Module has been tested with all Windows OS's through Windows 2000 Professional.
The Image Management Module consists of two major components - a SPEED-based application module and a Windows program to display images.
Implementation of image applications is a "work in progress". Only six image tie-ins are currently implemented. The plan is to add capabilities as you, the TMS users, identify them. The six areas where images can currently be displayed are described below.
- Cable Diagrams
- The PR/CR Inquiry program provides an option to display a drawing for the cable whenever the Cable Master Record is displayed.
- Terminal Diagrams
- The PR/CR Inquiry program provides an option to display a drawing for the terminal whenever the terminal detail is displayed.
- Special Circuit Diagrams
- The PR/CR Inquiry program provides an option to display a drawing for the circuit whenever the Special Circuit Information Record is displayed (if an image file is identified in the record).
- Building Diagrams
- The PR/CR Inquiry program provides an option to display a drawing for the building whenever the Building Master Record is displayed.
- Building Locations
- The PR/CR Inquiry program provides an option when a building master record is displayed to show a section of a base map and locate the building on it.
- Area Code Locations
- The Toll Call Message Accounting Location Inquiry program provides an option to display a map of the United States and locate an area code.
In addition, the Image Management Module provides access to three stand-alone inquiry functions - Area Code Inquiry, Building Inquiry, and Miscellaneous Images Inquiry. The miscellaneous images can include just about anything.
