ViaNet is a Windows-based application that resides on a network file server. K&R currently offers two versions of ViaNet to meet the needs of our customers.
The two versions operate nearly identically, therefore, all references to ViaNet also apply to ViaNet TCO.
Users create an icon for the application on their individual computers and invoke ViaNet to submit service requests by filling out a form. A user can also check the status of a previously submitted service request.
Access to the ViaNet application can be restricted to a group of users through the network security functions.
Note that submitted service requests do not automatically create TMS work orders. When a service request is submitted, the information is stored in a file in a particular directory/folder. The person or persons charged with entering work orders into the system can then review each service request, and if appropriate, create a work order without re-keying the information. If a service request is improperly filled out (e.g., insufficient information), it can be rejected.
Client PC's (i.e., those PC's where service requests are entered and submitted) require Windows 95\NT 4.0 SP5 or higher and network connectivity. The users must have proper network permissions.
PC's used to review submitted service requests, and to accept or reject them, require Windows 95\NT 4.0 SP5 or higher and KCML for Windows 4.00.18 or higher, with TMS access. (Client PC's do not require KCML.)
