Work Flow Control Module Overview

The Work Flow Control (WFC) Module provides electronic distribution and management of work orders. A list of work orders is maintained by shop or work category, and presented to operators through the Work Status Display. The WFC Module interfaces with the following applications:

PR/CR Interface

The Work Flow Control (WFC) Module references various Plant Record/Cable Record (PR/CR) Module data files. The WFC Module does not update PR/CR files, although the TSR/TC Module (with which the WFC Module works) does update many PR/CR files.

TSR (Work Orders) Interface

The interaction with Telephone Service Requests (TSR) work orders is extensive. When a work order is entered, the operator can specify routing to up to nine distribution points.

The distribution does not occur immediately. The work order is submitted for approval first. A person responsible for approving work orders reviews those work orders waiting for approval via the Work Status Display. A work order can be either approved or rejected. When a work order is approved, the approver's name and the approval date are inserted into the work order, and the distribution records are generated. When a work order is rejected, it is routed to a special distribution point (REJ), where it can be modified and resubmitted, or deleted.

Once the distributions have been generated after the approval step, each shop's distribution record can be accessed from the Work Status Display. If a completion is required, a scheduler can assign the work order to an individual user ID, enter estimated man-hours, and/or assign scheduled start and completion dates.

Completion information includes the date completed, man-hours expended, the cost of material required, and notes. After the last required completion for the work order has been entered, the work order is forwarded to a special distribution point for final close out.

A user responsible for final close out accesses a work order from the Work Status Display, and the system totals the man-hour and dollar figures and defaults the work order completion information. Any additional information required to signal completion of the work order must be provided by the user. The work order distribution cycle is now complete, and the work order can be released for processing.
